Specialized High School Test (SHSAT) Prep
SHSAT is the exam students take in 8th or 9th grade when they apply to specialized high schools in New York City. How students do on this test is the one and only criteria for whether or not they get accepted to NYC specialized high schools.
Our tutors have helped students qualify for schools such as Stuyvesant and Bronx Science in big part because we know how the SHSAT works. Most notably, the SHSAT scaled scoring is very weird. If a student gets an almost perfect score on one section and does only decently on the other, that student will get a scaled score high enough for every specialized high school. However, if a student does very well, but not exceptionally well, on both sections, that student will not get a scaled score high enough for Stuyvesant and Bronx Science.
